Gabriel performed Luther Vandross’ "Dance With My Father" during the Top 9 performance. The theme for the night was “tribute to late music icons.”
He gave a moving performance of Dance With My Father and the judges liked it.

Judges’ comments:
*Pilita: If you make it or you don’t make it, everybody will know who Gabby is and how wonderful he is.

*Gary V.: You used your heart and your voice came out and I cannot wait to see you again.
*Charice: I love the song plus you singing, perfection.

*Martin: One week ago, your a little boy but tonight with that voice, you’re a little man.
 

(5th live performance)

Gabriel admits that RnB is his comfort zone so he personally picked South Border’s "Rainbow" to perform at the Top 8 performance show of The X Factor Philippines. OPM was the theme of the performances. The song required him to do a lot of falsettos and he did it in a way that showed everyone that he could  do more than just sing ballads. His vocal gymnastics was amazing; letting Gab show his vocal abilities.
Judges’ comments:

*Pilita: Ikaw ang dark horse ng competition na 'to.
*Gary V.: What a great choice of song. Kasi talagang kamadong-kamado mo, napaka-relax, sabi nga ni Charice "he's moving". So ang sarap makita na you're not only becoming better, but you're becoming more confident. At ang GANDA talaga ng boses mo. Dito ko narinig yung 'Gabriel', boses ni 'Gabriel' na hinahanap ko. Great job!"

*Charice: You really showed that you really liked the song. And you really did tonight.
*Martin: You made a great choice. Napaka-relax ka. The best thing about you, you don't know how good you are.

(6th Live Performance)
Gabriel Maturan sang Kenny Loggins’ "Forever" in the Top 7 performance show of The X Factor Philippines with the theme “songs from the 80s.” The category is still intact, with not even one of the three contestants being included in the bottom group.

Judges’ comments:

*Pilita: I call him the quiet achiever. Pero gusto ko pa rin makita na hindi ka nahihiya.
*Gary V.: Quite an achiever. Nabigyan mo ng bagong buhay ang kanta. Over all, you did very good.

*Charice: Ang ganda. Gusto lang naming makita na talagang hindi ka mahiyain sa stage. Pero kung sa boses lang, maganda.
*Martin: I want you to come out. Pag dumating sa stage, you have to be the star that we all know you really are.

(7th performance)
The category for the week is a Tribute for the two best bands of all time; Ereaserheards and Rivermaya. Gabriel sang Rivermaya's "Hinahanap-Hanap Kita" that also showed his moves. He promised that he will be more confident this time, and he really did so the crowd goes wild.

*Pilita: Gabriel is the Quiet Achiever. You are the Dark Horse of this contest.
*Gary V.: Yung ginawa mo sa bandang dulo tapos sinabayan mo pa ng galaw mo. Hindi talaga madali ang gumalaw at sumayaw at kumanta ng ganun. You're dancers with you, they could have overpowered what you did but you did not allow that to happen. You held your ground.

*Charice: This is it. Ito na yung performance na hinihintay naming lahat. Talagang nakita namin yung confident na Gab. Keep it up, man. This is it.
*Martin: We got Gabriel. The REAL Gabriel. I'm proud of you.

(8th performance)
Reviving the Revivals is the category for the week. Gab sang "Moonlight Over Paris" by Vanessa Williams revived by Paolo Santos​. He chose the song that made him more relaxed and confident while performing on stage.

*Pilita: Perfect! Parang kumakanta ka na ikaw na talaga ang champion kasi now I see more confidence.
*Gary V.: Yung effect sakin nung sa umpisa sabi ko, ah shoot na shoot 'to kumbaga sa basketall shoot na shoot talaga. You're voice is moving enough.

(9th performance)
*Gab (VTR): With my performance tonight, I'll make people believe that I deserve to be in the Top 3.

​

Gab is the only contestant never to land in the bottom 2. He was Nievera's last remaining act after Kedebon Colim and Jeric Medina were eliminated consecutively on weeks 7 and 8. On the top 4 show, the category was "Musical Hero" where he performed his version of Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend". Gab showed his beautiful voice with those falsettos that made the judges to be impressed with his performance.

*Pilita: He's still here in this contest because he still has a very big chance to make it.

*Gary V.: Ang ginawa mo ngayon ay siguro talagang nagbigay ng stamp na mahihirapan talaga ang tao sa pagpili dahil yung performance mo vocally lalong lalo na sa umpisa ang daming kulot pero natamaan mo lahat yun and you did it very naturally, very naturally. You have what it takes and I look forward to see it again and again.
*Martin: This was your best performance, your most relaxed performance.



​-Public voting afterward launched Gabriel into the top 3 along with KZ Tandingan and Daddy's Home.

*Martin: My only regret is that I didn't meet Gabriel sooner because I think I'm a better person now that I've met him. The song, the lyrics and the beautiful, beautiful smooth voice of Gabriel Maturan will blow you away.

*Gary V.:Si Gab, para sa akin pag lumabas yung may konting confidence sya at pag nakita ng tao  yan, hindi lang sya deserving na makapasok sa Top 3 but he will be deserving to win it all.
 

*Gab: Tonight will be the performance of my life. Either I make it or break it basta gagawin ko po ang aking best.

​

Gab, the only remaining contestant from the Boys Category mentored by Martin Nievera was second to perform. He’s evidently more confident now compared to when the live shows started and it really showed in his performance. He sang Fantasia Barrino’s "I Believe", putting his own style into the arrangement which was applauded by everyone and praised by the judges. Gary said, Gab sang with heart and soul and everyone who heard the performance felt it, and that’s all that matters.
 

*Gary V.: Gab, i told you backstage that you will be going to shine and you did just that. That's what makes you who you are, Gab.

*Charice: Yung performance mo kanina yan yung reason kung bakit mula nung audition mo hanggang ngayon, we believe in you. You did great. Ngayon narealize ko, wow ang galing Gab. That was really good.
*Martin: Ito yung pinakamagandang performance mo vocally in every aspect. You did the work of four guys all by yourself. Every week you show us something different and something better.

*Gab: sobrang mahal na mahal ko po yung kanta at feeling ko po yun po yung buong journey ko po dito sa X Factor at yun po yung perfect song para dito. Ngayon nalaman ko na talagang lahat ng ito ay plano ni God at ngayon I Believe na deserving na po talaga ko.
 

Lastly, Gabriel Maturan sang with Bamboo. Gab let his hair down with their performance of The Script’s "The Man Who Can’t Be Moved" with a "Leaving On A Jet Plane" twist.

​Gary V.: Bamboo, I wanna thank you because this young man over here talagang laging may nakikita akong parang may gusto siyang gawin na kakaiba and ngayon you gave him the chance to do just that with you.
Bamboo: It was a perfect mix, nangyari lang yun and I was giving my crazy ideas tapos oo lang sya ng oo kaya sabi ko, "okay, game 'to."  So thank you (talking to Gab) for listening to me, it's a pleasure. Congratulations for making this far, it's a gift di ba, YOU HAVE THE X FACTOR . You believe that right? Alam mo yun diba?
Gab: Now I do. :)

On the opening, Gab sang Whitney Houston’s “On My Own” with Erik Santos. And as part of the show, the three grand finalists also performed with their mentors for the first time on the X Factor Philippines; sang Roger Bart's "Go the Distance" with his mentor Martin Nievera.

He became 1st runner-up of the competition on October 7, 2012; received P100,000 garnered 32.33% of votes.

- Gabriel Maturan surprised us all with his own version of Fantasia Barrino's winning piece, I Believe. Gabriel gave his heart to the song and it radiates as he hit those high notes and move his falsetto. His performance surely gave us goosebumps.
- The last performance of the night was the duet between Gabriel Maturan and rock icon Bamboo. The two did The Script's The Man Who Can't Be Moved and Gab redeemed himself from that other performance from The Script (think Breakeven). With a twist of Leaving On A Jet Plane in the end, it was simply the best performance of the night. WOW!
*Fearless forecast:

- It was a toss up between KZ Tandingan and Gabriel Maturan. If we will based the decision purely on tonight's performances, then the Dark Horse (Gab) beats the front runner (KZ) but we knew that all will be based on votes so just like any other results show, it will be purely unpredictable. However, we would like to give the shot to Gabriel who might end up repeating an Erik Santos feat beating Sheryn Regis in Star in a Million.
